KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Marijuana lounges could soon make their way to Kansas City.
On September 17, Kansas City councilman Wes Rogers proposed the idea at the City’s Planning Commission meeting.
The commission voted in favor 5-1, sending the proposal to the committee and then possibly on to the full city council.
Marijuana has been legal in Missouri since December 2022. According to the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association, Missouri’s cannabis industry generates more than $241 million in sales tax revenue annually for state and local governments.
Councilman Rogers said it’s tough for small business owners to work their way into the marijuana industry. Rogers believes marijuana lounges will give mom and pop shops the ability to enter the industry.
