JACKSON, MI — Construction crews have been spotted bringing a historic former Jackson restaurant to the ground.
Since Monday, Sept. 15, workers and excavators have been demolishing the former Gilbert’s Steak House, 2323 Shirley Drive, in Blackman Township. The building has been closed since 2006.
Blackman Township Planning/Zoning Administrator Bryan Powers said the property is owned by Narayan Jyot LLC. Powers said the owner informed him of plans to tear down the former restaurant to build a hotel, though he didn’t have further details.
According to property records, Narayan Jyot LLC owns four surrounding parcels in addition to the restaurant property, totaling over 6 acres. Records show the steakhouse lot was purchased for $195,000.
