LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The family of a 12-year-old boy who died after being hit by a jet ski on Nolin Lake in July 2024 is pushing for stricter boating laws.

The family of Keegan Peterson worked alongside state representative Ken Fleming to put together Keegan’s Law. The bill, which the family will present to the state Judiciary Committee on Thursday in Frankfort, would require the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife to perform a blood test after serious and life-threatening incidents on Kentucky waterways.

“I think in a critical injury or fatality, the investigators need to have all the information to be able to really identify what happened,” Peterson’s mom, Heather Yelton, said.
