LORTON, Va. (DC News Now) — The Scout’s Motto is “be prepared” — and that’s exactly what helped three Longfellow Middle School eighth-graders when the unthinkable happened.
About six months ago, Davin Lee, Raphael Loosen, and Avi Yoshimizu were trying to earn their mountain biking badges at the Laurel Hill Equestrian Center in Lorton when Davin’s father, Laurent Lee, collapsed to the ground, unconscious and without a pulse.
“Every time I see them, I give them a big hug. I’m forever grateful, I wouldn’t be here without them,” said Laurent Lee in an interview with DC News Now on Wednesday.
Lee says he is lucky to be alive after going into cardiac arrest. He says doctors told him there’s only about a 5 percent chance of surviving an arrest like that outside of a hospital setting.
