ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) -- Alexandria health officials are raising the alarm on declining vaccination rates in children after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) found vaccination rates dropped well below the threshold considered for herd immunity.

Some parents shared their worries about the vaccination rates dropping, especially among some of the youngest students.

“I think it's a bad thing. I think everybody should have their children vaccinated,” said mother Linda Yee.

The Virginia Department of Health found that for the 2024 school year, vaccinations against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) for kindergarteners in Alexandria dropped to 83%.
