At least four public school teachers in Florida have been suspended for statements they made about the horrific murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, according to a teacher’s union official.

None were in South Florida, but public school teachers statewide might be afraid to use the Kirk assassination as a teaching moment in their classrooms, to talk about his life’s work or even to discuss the history of political violence, after a stern directive from the state.

“We should have the ability to have discourse with our students and allow ‘em to see both sides and make determinations for themselves, that’s what education truly is about,” said Antonio White, president of United Teachers of Dade. “I thought the First Amendment applied to all citizens, not just some citizens.”
