MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — A law firm claims Morristown banned a candlelight vigil for Charlie Kirk, but city officials dispute this characterization.

"First Liberty Institute," which describes itself as the nation's largest law firm dedicated to exclusively defending and restoring religious liberty for all Americans, said it sent a demand letter to the city on behalf of a resident. This letter claimed the resident could not host a vigil due to a local ordinance.

The proposed vigil for Friday, Sept. 20 was originally posted in a social media group on Saturday, Sept. 13. According to the law firm, a representative from the local Chamber of Commerce said events had to get a permit from the city. The law firm claims that paperwork was filed on Monday, Sept. 15.
