MARSHALL COUNTY, Iowa -- The number of Legionnaires' cases in Marshall County jumped again just 24 hours after the last surge on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the number of Legionnaires' cases in Marshall County had jumped to 68, up from 61 cases on Tuesday. Since August 2025, there has only been one death linked to the Marshall County Legionnaires' cases.

Legionnaires' disease is caused by legionella bacteria which is inhaled through water vapor droplets which can come from cooling towers, water fountains, or hot tubs. Legionnaires' is not spread from person to person.

The Marshall County Public Health Department and Iowa HHS announced the cluster and their investigation two weeks ago, saying they were working with the CDC to identify the cause of the growing number of cases.
