HOUSTON (KIAH) – The Houston Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own after a violent crash on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, HPD announced Senior Police Officer Alex Roberts was struck and killed around 4:20 p.m. while conducting a traffic escort on his motorcycle. The department did not give details about what led to the crash; however, Investigators with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety are piecing together the deadly collision.
Roberts worked on the Traffic Enforcement Division’s Solo Motorcycle Detail for 15 years after being sworn in as an officer in November 2010.
HPD Police Chief J. Noe Diaz, Jr. confirmed the officer’s death, calling it a crushing loss.
