A man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for using a credit card skimmer across Chicago and parts of New Jersey to steal more than $175,000, according to federal court documents.

Florin Nicolae Tarta, 40, who had been found guilty of bank fraud, access device fraud and aggravated identity theft charges earlier this year was sentenced last week to six years and nine months in federal prison, according to federal prosecutors.

The Romanian national and two other men — were convicted of stealing $177,280 over the span of several months using credit card skimmers in late 2023 and early 2024, according to court documents.

Another Romanian national, Leonid Grigore Smetanca, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison, and Radu Farcas, 42, of London, England, was sentence
