D.D. Lewis, a two-time Super Bowl champion linebacker with the Cowboys and an All-American at Mississippi State, died this week, Dallas announced .

He was 79.

Born in Tennessee, Lewis joined Mississippi State in 1965 and became one of the most decorated players in the football program’s history. He racked up accolades that included winning the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1967, the same season he was an All-American first team member.
