HAZEL – No one was injured Tuesday after a combine caught fire just north of Hazel, Calloway County Fire-Rescue said.
According to CCFR, firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Brandon Road and Pleasant Grove Road in the Hazel community at approximately 4:15 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a combine on fire in a soybean field. As crews responded, a large column of black smoke was visible from as far away as the Kirksey community, nearly 15 miles from the scene.
“Firefighters arrived to find the combine fully involved,” said Lt. Taylor Black, CCFR’s public information officer. “Despite immediate suppression efforts, the fire was fueled by burning tires and onboard fuel, making it extremely difficult to extinguish. Over the course of the response, firefighters deployed more t
