Hashem Abedi is due to appear in court today (Thursday) after being charged with attempted murder over an alleged attack on prison officers.

The Manchester Arena bomb plotter, 28, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after four prison officers were allegedly injured at HMP Frankland in County Durham.

He is also accused of one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of unauthorised possession in prison of a knife or offensive weapon following the alleged incident at the maximum-security jail on April 12.

He is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court in London today (September 18).
