BARDSTOWN, Ky. — Brooks Houck was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison plus five years for murdering his ex-girlfriend, Crystal Rogers, while his co-defendant, Joseph Lawson, was given 25 years for his part in the 2015 case that rattled Bardstown.

Rogers’ uncle, Mike Ballard, said he and his family are a little closer to closure after hearing the sentences for two of the men convicted in her death.

“I think justice was served today," Ballard said. "I think there's a way to go. You know, it'd be great to find Crystal's remains. That's the hard part about it; getting total peace from it."

"I don't know if you will get total peace from a murder of a young lady that had five children. But to be able to put her to rest in a way that she deserves would be awesome."
