JAPAN (WCBD) – Georgetown native Melissa Jefferson-Wooden is on fire! The world’s fastest woman advanced to the finals Thursday during the World Athletics Championships in Japan.
Jefferson-Wooden had an impressive runtime of 22.00 seconds in the 200-meter heat, besting her time of 22.24 just one day earlier.
She will compete in the 200-meter finals on Friday morning. After that, it’s on to the 4x100 heats taking place Saturday morning with the finals on Sunday.
Jefferson-Wooden is listed among the top eight at the World Championships. She’s also an Olympic champion and a world champion.
