SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) - The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, is launching a free reading program to help build the reading skills of children in the community.

"Prime Time Family Reading is designed to help young children build a strong foundation in literacy, creativity, and critical thinking," a press release stated. "Prime Time Family Reading combines interactive storytelling and discussion led by deputies. Children will explore important topics such as fairness, courage, and dreams in a safe and welcoming environment."

The six-week program is free and open to families with children ages 6-10, with prizes and award-winning books given to them to take home. It begins on Monday, October 6, at 6 p.m. at Sheriff's Safety
