One day after he left a Kingston, Ont., courthouse in an ambulance, a man facing 98 charges, including dozens for alleged sexual assaults, said through his lawyer that he was in too much pain to participate in his trial.
Michael Haaima walked into court under his own power Thursday, wearing a suit, with the sides of his head shaved, long hair slicked back and a heavy beard.
"Love you, sweetie," called a woman sitting outside court. "Love you too," he responded.

It wasn't clear what was wrong, but his lawyer, Natasha Calvinho, said the 40-year-old was "still in a great deal of pain, both physically and emotionally" as she asked for court to be adjourned for the day.
