When Steve Wise worked as a property tax assessor about 15 years ago when the economy went south, he was there at ground zero when it came to small property owners in Tulare County trying to subdivide their land in an effort to sell a portion of their land to make extra money.
The problem was they were having to essentially pay extra property taxes and having to wait a long time for a refund on those taxes when they sold their land. The Tulare County Board of Supervisors did something about that at Tuesday's board meeting.
The board unanimously by a 5-0 vote approved a proposal that will no longer require small property owners to pay that extra tax. The proposal will go into effect for property owners who subdivide four or less parcels.
