'It's such an interesting show because it shows a different side of the war'
Retired Col. Jamie Cade was once the commanding officer of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse. He led the regiment when they were still based in Calgary, and oversaw the transition northward to Edmonton.
He was in the military for 37 years, many of which were spent looking at reproductions of Alfred Munnings’ . It depicts the Strathcona regiment’s climactic moment of the First World War. They host a parade and service to commemorate that battle every year.
Every Strathconan knows about the charge, he says.
At the opening of the Munnings exhibition at the Nickle Galleries, Cade got to see the painting in person for the first time.
