On September 11th, Lauren Andie Pawelczyk filed a lawsuit against the Collegedale Police Department, Chief Jack Sapp III, and former Officer Andrew Carter.
The plaintiff claims she was driving with her boyfriend and son on July 25, 2024. She claims she swerved to avoid hitting a dead animal in the roadway.
Pawelczyk said that's when Officer Andrew Carter pulled her over for "minor violations."
Collegedale police say that's one way they look for impaired drivers.
Sgt. Cory McNeal says "overall we just look for clues to help back up our suspicion of intoxicated drivers."
According to the lawsuit, Pawelczyk admits she was arrested previously for a DUI. Her car was equipped with an interlock device, which would prevent a vehicle form starting if the driver has alcohol on their breath.
