SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man was forced to shoot and kill two of his dogs as he tried to stop them from attacking his smaller dog before they bit him on the arm, local authorities say.

Animal Care Services is investigating the incident, which happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Citron Gardens, near Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 East. ACS officials say the 37-year-old man "was severely bitten on the arm and leg while attempting to separate several of his dogs during a fight."

San Antonio police officials said the man responded by grabbing his gun and shooting two larger dogs, which ACS said died from the injuries. The smaller dog also succumbed to its injuries, SAPD said.

ACS identified the dog that bit the man as a Dogo Argentino, a large, mastiff-type breed.
