The three men and their families permitted Richie to tell their story and that of others living with young-onset dementia in his book, The Optimistics

An author looking to give back to a cause dear to him ended up finding a story that would change his life.

Richie Frieman is a Baltimore-based author who was attending the local walk to end Alzheimer's in his area. Alzheimer's has impacted his own family, as well as his wife's. That day, they were there to honor their friend's father, who had recently passed away.

"One of my best friends, his dad died that summer before the walk.
