SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A Syracuse family is grateful their grandmother is alive after an overnight fire tore through their home on Albert Road just after midnight Thursday. September 18.

Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds said crews were called to the raised ranch around 12:19 a.m. Firefighters from Syracuse Fire Department's Station 10 had to get to the bottom of the dead-end road and climb a steep hill to reach the house engulfed in flames.

“When they arrived, they had heavy fire coming out of the second floor,” Monds said. “Outside, a granddaughter told us her grandmother was still inside.”

Firefighters quickly went in, battling smoke and heat, and found the woman inside. They carried her out on an air mattress-type rescue device and turned her over to AMR's medical team. She was
