MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are injured after a private plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the University-Oxford Airport on Thursday around 1:15 p.m., according to University of Mississippi officials.

The injured people were airlifted to area hospitals and their condition is unknown at this time.

Emergency crews from Oxford, Lafayette County and the University of Mississippi responded.

The University-Oxford Airport is closed as of 5 p.m. Thursday, and incoming flights are being routed to other airports. This airport is located near the campus of Ole Miss.

This crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
