A local group is working to reduce the number of stray dogs in Montgomery County, gaining support from local elected officials and other area agencies.

Formed in March 2025, the Montgomery County Animal Welfare Task Force is made up of advocates and members from several local organizations, such as SICSA, the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center, local law enforcement and State Rep. Phil Plummer.

The task force is now meeting at least once each month, focusing on four keys areas it believes will help make progress: • Collaborating with local shelters • Increasing community outreach • Access to affordable veterinary care • A change in legislation

By taking a strong stance and working as a team, Plummer is confident the community will start to see changes.
