PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called Thursday afternoon to a brush fire in the area of W. Clark and Darst Streets.

Fire Battalion Chief Larry Carter says when they arrived just after 2:30, crews found a 60-acre field on fire…with flames inching toward a commercial building nearby.

Area fire departments, including Limestone, Timber Hollis, the Air Guard Fire Department, JIMAX and River City helped prevent the fire from reaching the building and a few propane tanks.

Peoria Fire Department used a pair of drones to track the fire until it was out. Crews were on the scene for roughly three hours.

Damage was limited to $1,000. No injuries were reported.
