OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio -- Former Olmsted Falls Police Chief William Traine’s 2018 lawsuit against the city was recently settled for $45,000.
Olmsted Falls Mayor James Graven said the case was covered by insurance.
“In cases where there is no insurance, the mayor decides whether or not to settle a case,” he said.
“In this case, the insurance company decided to settle it.”
An an attorney for more than 35 years, Graven said it was a a frivolous case.
“The city prevailed in Common Pleas Court and the Court of Appeals on all claims, except one that was sent back to the trial court,” he saaid.
“The fact of the matter is that Mr. Traine signed up for the chief’s test, but he failed to appear to take the exam. I believe that if this single claim went to trial, the city would have won.”
