Two ambulance service workers have been arrested in connection with a significant investigation into six deaths in Wiltshire. A man in his 30s from West Wiltshire faces serious allegations, including six counts of gross negligence manslaughter and four counts of ill-treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker. Additionally, a 59-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. Both individuals have been released on bail while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker from the Major Crime Investigation Team at Wiltshire Police confirmed the ongoing investigation. He stated, "We can confirm that a major investigation is under way relating to several adult deaths in and around Wiltshire. This investigation has been ongoing since an initial report was made to Wiltshire Police in 2023, and detailed enquiries have been undertaken since to ascertain the facts."

The man was arrested in June 2024, while the woman was taken into custody in March of the same year. Walker emphasised the importance of supporting the families affected by these tragic events, urging the media to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Both individuals were employed by the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT). A spokesperson for the trust stated, "As soon as the trust became aware of any concerns, we immediately initiated an internal investigation which resulted in a prompt police referral, and we have been working closely with them as part of the ongoing investigation."

The spokesperson also confirmed that two staff members were suspended, meaning they were relieved of all duties, including patient treatment. They reassured the public that this is an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to patients, encouraging people to continue calling 999 in life-threatening emergencies.

One of the suspended individuals is no longer employed by the trust. Due to the ongoing investigation, the trust has stated that no further comments will be made at this stage.
