CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A possible motive was released in the deadly shooting across from a popular park in Uptown Charlotte.

According to an affidavit, surveillance footage was said to show Jarius Jackson starting to argue with Jahday Humphrey shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, on Brevard Court, across from Romare Bearden Park. Humphrey allegedly punched Jackson in the face multiple times. Then, according to the affidavit, Jackson pulled out a gun and shot Humphrey “several” times.

Humphrey was taken to an area hospital but died from his injuries.

Detectives wrote that Jackson told them he was afraid for his life. They also wrote that his action on camera was inconsistent with a self-defense claim.

Jackson was arrested and held without bond on a first-degree murder charg
