NORFOLK, Neb. (KOLN) - Authorities arrested a Lincoln man after a woman was seriously injured in an assault in Norfolk early Friday.

Norfolk Police and Norfolk Rescue responded to a report of an assault near 1st Street and Gold Strike Drive around 6:10 a.m. Officers found a woman with extensive bleeding who required immediate medical attention.

Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Ryan Schmidt, who had left the scene before officers arrived.

He was later located in Madison and taken into custody by a Madison County deputy on assault-related charges, along with an active arrest warrant out of Lancaster County.

According to Norfolk Police, Schmidt is being held in Madison County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, strangulation, and second-degree false imprisonment. Additi
