A 62-year-old man from Niagara Falls is dead, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say, after a collision in Thorold.

The collision happened on Highway 58, according to police, at the intersection of Davis Road and Thorold Stone Road near the Thorold Tunnel, when the man, driving a motorcycle, hit a pickup truck.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said according to witnesses, the man was driving eastbound on Highway 58 and approaching the intersection when the light changed from green to amber.

He said while traffic in front of the motorcycle started to slow down, the driver accelerated through to "beat the light."
