Porterville Mayor Greg Meister has written a letter to Governor Governor Newsom, asking the governor to veto Assembly Bill 495, the Family Preparedness Plan Act.

The bill has passed the State Legislature and now awaits Newsom's signature. Newsom hasn't announced his position on the bill.

At Tuesday's Porterville City Council meeting Meister wondered aloud based on Newsom's recent national political interests, if he would veto the bill so he wouldn't take a position against “parental rights.” The Porterville City Council also approved a letter against the bill at its September 2 meeting.
