CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) - 15 students were recognized at the Capitol for their work in a recent competition.

The winners of this year's SMART529 "When I Grow Up" essay contest met with state leaders in recognition of their efforts. First grader, Cora Neace went home with $5,000 after being named the grand prize winner. West Virginia Treasurer, Larry Pack told 59News the contest is meant to help students start thinking about what the future may look like for them. "The essays were just absolutely phenomenal. What the contest is all about is trying to get the students to start thinking about the future, what they want to be when they grow up," said the treasurer.
