A routine traffic stop led to a major drug arrest in Gluckstadt last week.

According to the Gluckstadt Police Department, on September 18, 2025, officers and investigators stopped a red Dodge Avenger on Interstate 55 for careless driving. During the stop, authorities recovered several bags of suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Charles Smith Jr., was arrested and transported to the Madison County Detention Center. He is facing charges of Careless Driving and Aggravated Trafficking of a Controlled Substance.

Police officials commended the officers involved, noting their continued dedication to keeping the Gluckstadt community safe.
