A gang of fraudsters has been convicted after conning their way into a takeover bid of a football club, publicly fronted by One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.
The singer hoped he could help his childhood club, League One side Doncaster Rovers, become a football powerhouse.
However, he was unaware some of the people investing in the club were fleecing millions from people's pension funds .
It was revealed on Friday, September 19, that Kevin Phelan, Daniel Giles and Adrian Bashforth were convicted in August, and now face "significant" prison sentences.
Prosecutors at Leeds Crown Court said the deal was used by the trio in an attempt to cover their tracks and explain the missing money, the Mirror reports .
