PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) - Mental Health and Abuse Survivors often face similar challenges when it comes to recovery.

One thing these two have in common, is the stigma surrounding reaching out for help. Candace Nelson works as the Senior Divisional Director for Southern Highlands.

She says in 2025, there are multiple resources people can use to better their mental health.

“Talking about mental health and being open about the individual problems people have and that it's more common than you think, there are lots of treatment options. Medication is a possibility, but also therapy sees a lot of people recover with just therapy alone," said Nelson.

Shame and guilt are very common when it comes to abuse survivors. These factors can cause survivors to suffer in silence.
