NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) – Parents are scrambling to find a new daycare for their child as Word Academy gets ready to close their doors, and the church has yet to explain why.

“It’s been mind-blowing for me, because it’s a church-based program,” Word Academy parent Chasity Tingle said.

Word Community Church gave parents a 12-day notice that they’d be shutting down Word Academy. Parents were not given any reason behind the decision, but it came in the early stages of a child abuse investigation led by DHR and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Parents learned on Wednesday about the closure. Friday morning, the Word Academy sign was removed and the Facebook page is nowhere to be found.
