KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Friday evening about 8:15 p.m. a woman, with her dog, was attempting to cross U.S. 24 highway when she was hit by a car. As the woman was crossing the road a driver in a 2016 Nissan Versa, headed eastbound hit the woman and her dog.

The victim was a 77-year-old woman from Independence, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Her dog died from its injuries.

The driver involved stayed at the scene and was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation by the Independence Police Crash Investigations Unit.
