NEW YORK (WABC) -- As his opponents seek to close the polling gap, Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is set to pick up another key endorsement this weekend.

Longtime Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, who represents Crown Heights, Flatbush, Brownsville and other neighborhoods in New York's Ninth Congressional District, will formally back Mamdani on Saturday afternoon.

The anticipated endorsement comes at a time when key state Democrats have been slow to back the socialist Democrat.

The head of the state's Democratic Party, Jay Jacobs, announced he is not endorsing Mamdani, this while New York Gov. Kathy Hochul earlier this week pledged her support.
