The Sampson Independent, in partnership with Sign & Awning Systems of Dunn and Hog Slat of Newton Grove, is ramping up local high school sports with a new Wednesday promotion that will be entitled The Sampson Independent Fall Sports Highlights, featuring a standout young athlete from one of the county’s local teams.

Every Wednesday, a poster-size action shot of a local athlete will appear in the A section of the newspaper, giving props to young people for their time on the field, the pitch, the volleyball court, the golf course or the tennis arena, an effort, Sampson Independent publisher Sherry Matthews said, to offer young people an opportunity to shine in their local newspaper.
