KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man is in the hospital with serious injuries Sunday morning after he was hit by a train overnight in Wellsville, Kansas.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, at about 12:35 a.m., emergency responders were called to the Main Street railroad crossing on reports of a "train vs. pedestrian" crash.

When medics and Wellsville police arrived, they found a severely injured man in the road.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition is currently unknown.

"On behalf of all the first response agencies involved, our thoughts and prayers are with the patient and family through this extremely difficult time," the sheriff's office said.
