CLEMSON — For so many years, television cameras have panned to Clemson coach Dabo Swinney postgame and found him with the widest of grins on his face.

He’s either been jumping up and down after a game-winning drive or hugging players and coaches tightly, or he’s kissing a trophy before raising it high.

But on Sept. 20, after a 34-21 loss to Syracuse , an ESPN camera caught Swinney with a solemn expression: his arm around cornerback Avieon Terrell’s waist, head slumped as the Tiger Band played the alma mater.

Terrell, his arm latched to Swinney’s shoulder, lowered his head, too, almost as if he felt his coach’s pain.

“This is my life, man,” Swinney said. “I've been here 23 years. I love this place. I give this place the very best I got every single day. Every day.
