LANSING, Mich. (WNEM) - Michigan’s top doctor is making it clear: COVID-19 vaccines aren’t just for a select few.

Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, the state’s chief medical executive, issued a standing recommendation this week saying anyone six months and older should be able to receive the new 2025-26 COVID-19 vaccine if they want it.

The recommendation follows a U.S. Food and Drug Administration decision last month approving the vaccine for seniors 65 and older and for people ages 5 to 64 with at least one underlying health condition. But the FDA did not define which conditions qualify.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention list conditions such as obesity and physical inactivity but notes the list is not exhaustive. State health officials say that gap left room for confusion.
