EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - First responders challenged each other to a friendly game of hockey at Munn Ice Arena on Saturday to help give back to children in need.

The event was called the Munn Meltdown, which was a charity event to help raise funds for the nonprofit Santas First Responders, which helps children through tough times in various ways.

Jocelyn Mankowski with Santa’s First Responders spoke on why they have this event.

“To be able to collect in an area like Munn Arena with not just fire and police, DNR, nurses, educators,” said Mankowski. We are now connecting with our youth.“[...] ”They’re learning to be part of this community in a way that makes a difference, and they can be difference makers."

This was the first year they put this event on.
