CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A massive project called the River District bringing housing, parks, and trails on 1,200 acres in west Charlotte is now seeing its first residents.

What was once undeveloped land in west Charlotte just minutes from the airport has turned homes, townhomes, playgrounds, and trails. There are 229 lots in the first neighborhood part of the project. Crescent Communities senior managing director Rainer Ficken said there was a need for more housing with Charlotte’s growth.

“Charlotte is an incredible place right now with the people moving here, great place to live, and quality of life, we are going to help with that with the River District,” said Ficken.

This project was first approved by city council back in 2016.
