HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- North suburban police are investigating a report of an apparent cannonball found in a wooded area.
A resident found the object wedged between two rocks in the area of Fort Sheridan near Davis Street, Highland Park police said on Sunday.

It appeared to be a cannonball or a similar military ordnance that requires special training for removal.
The Waukegan bomb squad will investigate and determine whether to remove the object or destroy it on the scene, police said.
Police asked the public to avoid the area while crews are working.
The Lake County Forest Preserve District Police Department is investigating.
Anyone who finds an object that may be an old military ordnance is asked to call 911.
