DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal will move up one spot to start Tuesday night’s opener in Cleveland against the Guardians.

The adjustment is critical because it lines him up to pitch the season finale on Sept. 28 in Boston.

Both starts would come on normal, four-day rest. Skubal often pitches on five days of rest, especially when an off-day in the schedule allows it to occur naturally.

In this case, however, the Tigers will use the off-day on Monday to move Skubal ahead of right-hander Jack Flaherty.

Flaherty will now start on Wednesday in Cleveland. The series finale on Thursday, which was DFA’d starter Charlie Morton’s spot , remains undecided. Given the importance of the series, the Tigers are expected to take an all-hands-on-deck approach.
