MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (FOX 56) — Officials with the Montgomery County Fiscal Court announced on Sunday afternoon that Sheriff David Charles had been hospitalized after an SUV allegedly hit his cruiser.

On Sept. 21, Sheriff Charles was reportedly diverting traffic at the 113 exit of I-64 East from a previous crash that had occurred when the SUV allegedly hit his vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in Mt. Sterling, where officials said he was later released, and "is in good spirits."

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the driver and passengers in the other vehicle," Montgomery County Fiscal Court staff wrote.
