BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The Western North Dakota Honor Flight is doubling up on its trips to Washington, D.C. this week as a way to save money.
The organization flies veterans to D.C. to visit and reflect at the memorials, and they usually do one flight at a time. But Sunday morning, one plane took off from Bismarck and will get back on Monday night, and another group of veterans will fly out of Bismarck on Tuesday and return on Wednesday.
President of the Board of Directors Karen Karls said this change actually helps the organization save money.
“The airline we charter could leave the plane there overnight instead of flying it back the next day or the next month, or the next year,” said Karls. “We saved about $40,000 doing it this way.”
