A Suffolk County grand jury has indicted a former Boston police sergeant for allegedly raping a juvenile whom he had agreed to pay in exchange for sex, records show.

Paul Downey, 58, was indicted Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court on four counts of aggravated child rape and two counts each of enticing a child under 16 and paying for sex with a child under the age of 18, records show.

His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 26, according to legal filings.

Downey’s lawyer didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

On June 30, Downey pleaded not guilty to the same charges in Dorchester Municipal Court, where bail was initially set at $250,000 before it was lowered to $50,000 at a subsequent hearing. Downey’s bail status wasn’t immediately clear on Friday.
